Education Leaders Endorse Annalisa Perea for State Assembly

Central Unified School District Trustees cite Perea’s dedication to students, families, and equitable community planning.

FRESNO, CA – Two trustees from the Central Unified School District —Joshua Sellers and Nabil Kherfan have officially endorsed Fresno City Councilmember Annalisa Perea for State Assembly District 31. Their endorsements highlight Perea’s deep commitment to public education and her understanding of how strong schools are connected to strong communities.

The trustees praised Perea’s leadership and collaborative approach to policymaking, noting her unique ability to see the big picture while staying grounded in the needs of local families.

“I’m honored to have the support of these dedicated education leaders,” said Councilmember Annalisa Perea. “They are on the frontlines of shaping our next generation. In Sacramento, I’ll fight for stronger investments in our public schools, greater access to college and career training, and the resources every child deserves no matter their zip code.”

Trustee Joshua Sellers shared that “Annalisa understands that supporting students goes beyond the classroom; it means investing in safe neighborhoods, stable housing, and opportunity for families.” Trustee Nabil Kherfan emphasized that “Annalisa’s leadership is rooted in equity and access. She’s someone who knows how to deliver for students, educators, and working families alike.”

Perea holds a degree in City and Regional Planning from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and spent her career as an urban planner focused on building communities that are safe, walkable, and affordable. She brought that same focus to public service first as a Trustee for the State Center Community College District, and now as a member of the Fresno City Council, where she was unanimously selected to serve as both Vice President and Council President during her first two years.

As a councilmember, Perea has delivered tangible results: securing millions in public safety funding, reducing violent crime through community-based policing, and expanding affordable housing. Perea is proud to represent the Central Valley and is running for State Assembly to continue fighting for working families, thriving public schools, access to education at every level, safe neighborhoods, and economic opportunity across every community.
