Her grandfather came to the United States from Mexico City through the Bracero Program and worked for over 30 years on the railroad after traveling the country by train following the crops. Her grandmother worked at the Selma Cannery, and together they raised a family in the San Joaquin Valley. Those experiences instilled in Annalisa the values that guide her today. With a degree in City and Regional Planning from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Annalisa spent her career as an urban planner focused on building communities that are safe, walkable, and affordable. She has brought that same focus to public service—first as a Trustee for the State Center Community College District and now on the Fresno City Council, where she was unanimously selected by her colleagues to serve as Council Vice President and Council President during her first two years. As a councilmember, Annalisa has delivered tangible results. She secured millions in public safety funding to hire more firefighters and police officers, helped reduce violent crime through community-based policing strategies, and led efforts to expand affordable housing and cut homelessness. She also successfully negotiated a long-stalled tax-sharing agreement with Fresno County that increased city revenues without raising taxes—unlocking resources for essential services like emergency response and infrastructure. Her leadership is grounded in deep community engagement. Annalisa holds regular town halls across her district, often flyering door-to-door with her team to ensure residents know their voices matter. From tamale giveaways and school supply drives to neighborhood meetings in backyards, she’s built a reputation as a councilmember who shows up, listens, and follows through. But with rent going up year after year and home prices continuing to rise, that dream is slipping further away. They’re now wondering if they’ll need to work multiple jobs just to have a shot at homeownership, something that should be achievable for every working family. My grandfather came to the U.S. from Mexico City through the Bracero Program and spent over 30 years working on the railroad, while my grandmother worked at the Selma Cannery. They showed me that every penny counts when you are trying to raise a family. Their hard work and sacrifices taught me the values that guide me today: perseverance, community, and opportunity for every family.&nbsp;My work has been focussed on building safe and affordable communities here in the Central Valley.
